And we love it. The day after Jay and his family left, 5 of our best friends arrived for a Maui vacation. And of course we hosted them with these huge lobsters. Unfortunately this time around my lobster-fisherman contact caught only 4. Nonetheless, our guests couldn't finish the four anyway!
And why not a portrait shot with them babies

Our Maui Camera Club was invited by the Nature Conservancy of Hawaii to do a photoshoot at this beautiful rainforest on the other side of Haleakala volcano. It was a grueling hike but it was worth it. Our main goal of course was to get a snapshot of those elusive and endangered Hawaiian birds. I was lucky to get a good shot at one but my camera settings were messed up during the hysteria and I couldn't do any better than the one below.
A Hawaiian Creeper
This one got our attention very easily

Sometimes when it rains, like this morning, I come here to shoot the waterfalls at Iao Needle Park. This is one of four out there that were visible from the parking lot.
Jay, Dawn, and Hannah are in Maui for a 10 day vacation so why not, everybody loves a lobsterfest! This time my lobster-fisherman contact advised me how to cook it properly: boil them lobsters for 30 minutes in sprite (that's right, the Sprite soda drink) instead of water. What a difference in taste. As always he gave me some that are so huge it horrified Hannah
Six lobsters for 4 people? I think I went overboard. I couldn't even finish one.
Dawn took the honors with the largest of the bunch because she only eats the lobster's head. She gives the tail to Jay and he in turn returns the favor by giving her his lobster's head.

Again, Maui was voted the best island in the world as well as top tourist destination for 2010 by Conde Nast Travel Magazine. In the 20 years since this survey was started, Maui won 16 of those 20. Wow, Maui "no ka oi" (the best)
Twenty years ago at the height of my addiction to windsurfing I moved to Maui because it was also the best Windsurfing place in the world and still is today. We have Kanaha (beginner-advance), Hookipa (pro level), and Jaws (extreme) depending on your skill level.
I can think of another reason. Here's one of my favorite shots of Central Maui, the real Maui, not the "resort Maui" where everything is made up to look good and everyone smiles because it's part of their job hahaha. In Central Maui you don't get as many smiles but when you get one, it's straight from the heart and with Aloha, as it should be.
